Juba – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) welcomes a new Chief of Mission in the Republic of South Sudan. Jean-Philippe Chauzy, a French national, presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Friday, 30 November.     

The newly appointed Chief of Mission joins IOM South Sudan from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where he served for the past three years managing IOM’s mission there and coordinating a broad range of programmes, including responses to a worsening humanitarian crisis exacerbated by chronic insecurity and recurrent Ebola outbreaks.

Prior to joining IOM in the DRC, Chauzy was the World Food Progamme’s Global Director of Communications in Rome and before that IOM’s Spokesperson for the Office of the Director General and Head of Media and Communications at the Organization’s headquarters in Geneva. He joined IOM in 1999.

As a former BBC World Service journalist from 1988 to 1999, Chauzy extensively covered African affairs both as a senior producer and editor based in London, as a roving reporter in the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa and as the BBC West Africa correspondent covering more than 20 countries at a time of important political changes in the region.

Throughout his career, Chauzy has fostered productive working relationships with government representatives, partner UN agencies, civil society and the media. His management style is team oriented and cooperative.
